Redemption – Study July 29, 2008

The following is a study that I put together for an Anchor House meeting to follow up on a portion of the study that led the men to better understand their own corruption and all it encompasses. The intent was to shine the light on our hope for redemption through repentance and faith in Jesus Christ and His finished work accepted by the Father. My intent was to simply let the Scriptures speak loudly and boldly with minimal interjection. Thus the lack of commentary. Enjoy.

Redemption – Study July 29, 2008

2 Corinthians 5:17-21

17Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come. 18Now all these things are from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation, 19namely, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and He has committed to us the word of reconciliation. 20Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making an appeal through us; we beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. 21He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

Study Text:

21He made Him who (AJ)knew no sin to be (AK)sin on our behalf, so that we might become the (AL)righteousness of God in Him.

Why call Me Lord, Lord and do not the things I say?

Why call Me Lord, Lord and do not the things I say?

You call Me the Way and walk Me not!

You call Me the Life and live Me not!

You call Me Master and obey Me not!

If I condemn you blame Me not.

You call Me Bread and eat Me not!

You call Me Truth and believe Me not!

You call Me Lord and serve Me not!

If I condemn you blame Me not.

Limits of God’s Forgiveness - What Are They?

The following is a study I led at the Anchor House South which was a great blessing to my spirit and encouraging to the men present, may it be a blessing to you as well. The point being - as bad as we may want to think our sin debt is, God is a loving and merciful God ready to receive those who humble themselves and come to Him in repentance and faith. If you lack that desire, cry out to Him until a work has been done in your heart and He grants you repentance and faith as only He can do.

Limits of God’s Forgiveness – What are they?

AHS Saturday Bible Study – July 12, 2008

Questions:

1. Are there any unregenerate people who have sinned so badly, or in such a way, that they are beyond the ability of God to save them?

2. Is there any truth to the statement “Man you have no idea how badly I have sinned, there is no way that God could forgive what I have done”?

Text:

1 Corinthians 6:9-11 (New American Standard Bible)

9Or (A)do you not know that the unrighteous will not (B)inherit the kingdom of God? (C)Do not be deceived; (D)neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor [a]effeminate, nor homosexuals,  10nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will (E)inherit the kingdom of God. 11(F)Such were some of you; but you were (G)washed, but you were (H)sanctified, but you were (I)justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God.

The CROSS of Jesus Christ by Paul Washer

Many people claim the name of Christian and seem at a loss when they are asked to relate what transpired on the cross. I for one have considered it, but could never have said I had studied it enough to have a grasp on the magnitude of that event and its impact to the whole of humanity. Upon opening the latest HeartCry Magazine from HeartCry Missionary Society I was awakened to the magnitude of that most important event by the article ‘The CROSS of Jesus Christ’ by Paul Washer.

The following is the beginning of that piece (for the rest see the link above for the Magazine) which I would encourage you to consider as I am convinced it is an under-preached message with a powerful impact to the ears that hear and hearts that receive what it has to say. Thanks to Paul Washer for his faithful service to our Lord and diligence in delivering this message.

The Cross of Jesus Christ

By Paul David Washer

One of my greatest burdens is that the Cross of Christ is rarely explained. It is not enough to say that “He died” - for all men die. It is not enough to say that “He died a noble death” - for martyrs do the same. We must understand that we have not fully proclaimed the death of Christ with saving power until we have cleared away the confusion that surrounds it and expounded its true meaning to our hearers – He died bearing the transgressions of His people and suffering the divine penalty for their sins: He was forsaken of God and crushed under the wrath of God in their place.

Forsaken of God

One of the most disturbing, even haunting, passages in the Scriptures is Mark’s record of the great cry of the Messiah as He hung upon a Roman Cross. In a loud voice He cried out:

“Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?” which is translated, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”1

In light of what we know about the impeccable nature of the Son of God and His perfect fellowship with the Father, it is difficult to comprehend Christ’s words, yet in them, the meaning of the Cross is laid bare, and we find the reason for which Christ died. The fact that His words are also recorded in the original Hebrew tongue tells us something of their great importance. The author did not want us to misunderstand or to miss a thing! Paris Reidhead in his sermon “10 Shekels and a Shirt” which I found thanks to Paul Washer on SermonAudio.com, about a humanistic influence of Christianity and the preaching of the gospel said the following to which I must say an ever hearty Amen to:

“I have talked with people who have no assurance of sins forgiven and they want to feel saved before having committed themselves to Christ, but I believe that the only ones by whom God witnesses by His Spirit are born of Him are the people, whether they say it or not, that come to Jesus Christ and say something like this, “Lord Jesus, I’m going to obey You, and love You, and serve You, and do what You want me to do as long as I live, even if I go to hell at the end of the road, simply because You are worthy to be loved and obeyed and served and I’m not trying to make a deal with you.”

Thoughts from “The Heart of the Gospel” by Paul Washer

If God is Just He cannot forgive you. How can a Just God justify wicked men and still be Just? That’s the greatest problem in Scripture.   See Proverbs 17:15 which states: He who justifies the wicked and he who condemns the righteous, Both of them are an abomination to the Lord. Because God is Just and could not justify wicked men which would be an abomination, there had to be a propitiation for their sins, a sacrifice that satisfies justice and makes full payment to the justice of God, so that that just God can then show mercy to wicked men. A payment must be made.

The Simple Gospel…the Power of God to Salvation from Steve Camp

This is a gift from the ministry of Steve Camp which can be found at http://a1m.org/

August 11th 2007 - This is the gospel of Jesus Christ: salvation is by sola fide–through faith alone; sola gratia–by grace alone; solus Christus–in Christ alone; sola scriptura–according to the Word alone; soli Deo gloria–to the glory of God alone (Rom. 3:21-26; Rom. 10:9-10; Luke 24:46-49). The gospel is good news! Jesus Christ being fully God came to earth, was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, fulfilled the law and all righteousness, went to the cross as our divine substitute, satisfied the holiness and justice of God through His once for all sacrifice for our sins, took on Himself the guilt, penalty, and wrath of God that burns against us, was buried and rose bodily three days later from the grave; and that by grace through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ alone we have eternal–for we are clothed with the perfect righteousness of Jesus Christ, and have peace with God forever. This is the narrow way that leads to eternal life–that is the good news of the gospel. Anything less, no matter how sincere, is just a cheap watered down substitute. When the souls of people are at stake, may we not speak with timidity, uncertainty, or unbiblically. But let us speak the truth in love (Eph. 4:11-16); always ready to give a reason for the hope that is within us (1 Peter 3:15-16). Read the rest of this entry »

A Message worth sharing with friends and loved ones…

The “Examine Yourself compilation” from Paul Washer, put together by Steve aka Xtian of www.HisHolyspace.com and posted to Sermon Audio.com is a must hear message. Here is a quote from it that blessed me:

“Here stands God on the day of Creation, He looks at stars and He says “all you stars move yourself to this place and start in this order and move in a circle and move exactly as I tell you until I give you another word,” and they all obey Him.  “Planets pick yourself up and whirl, make this formation, at My command until I give you another word.”  He looks at mountains and He says “be lifted up” and they obey Him. He tells valleys “be cast down” and they obey Him. He looks at the sea and He says “you will come this far” and the sea obeys. And then He looks at you and He says “Come!” and you go NO!!!

Does anybody have a problem with that?”

Since I spent many hours in my previous life (pre-conversion) involved in understanding the arena of health and wellness I have been urged to include in this blog an area for just such a topic. I would be less than faithful were I to ignore the invitation so let me begin by offering a few websites that will help you to find reliable and effective information and means thru which you can recapture control of your health and wellness. But as I told my sons when they were younger and at times reluctant to take their vitamins, “There is only one time when they work and that is when you take them.”

Here are the sites for your convenience:

Mercola.com - Reliable health information on any topic thru the search engine and I would encourage you to sign up for his newsletter as a great resource for keeping abreast of the latest trends in health care. At first he might seem a bit radical if you are not familiar with an Alternative Medicine point of view, but considering that most of what he offers is FREE vs. what mainstream doctors charge just for an office visit, hopefully this will encourage you to at least use it as a site for research and understanding the issues.

Melaleuca, Inc. - Melaleuca, the Wellness Company, is a manufacturing company that manufactures and delivers direct to the consumer via Consumer-Direct Marketing, products that are safe, effective and promote health and wellness. If you are interested in setting up a trial membership or learning more about the Consumer Direct Marketing program Melaleuca contact me and we can discuss the options available to you.
